There was a period of time in my life, from, say–age 5 to age 8–where I thought Weird Al was better than anything.
Literally. Anything. Dinosaurs didn’t have curly hair, Transformers couldn’t play polka, and the only reason Christmas was worthwhile was because I might get a Weird Album (yes, I was just as clever as a child!).
Jesuswho of Nazawhere? I still don’t know who that is or why I get presents in commemoration of the night he gave birth to a virgin in a stable.
As time passed, my Weird Albsession (I’ll do that all night, just watch me) began to wain. Other, significantly less important things began to take up my Weird Alistening (didn’t even try that time) time. By high school I’d forgotten about him completely, and when college rolled around, I didn’t even bring any of his albums with me to Boston.
Imagine my surprise then when I finally got around to listening to his ne(Weird A)lbum “Straight Outta Lynwood,” and realizing that he was not only still “good,” but relevant and funny. I may have no choice but to do a Weird Al video retrospective week.
For now, enjoy “White and Nerdy,” in all its pasty, brainy glory.
