Timothy Saccenti Takes Over the World: Part 2
Battles
“Atlas”
Album: Mirrored
As promised, here’s more of me slurping off Mr. Saccenti, the talented visual stylist that I last pimped when I covered his video for Animal Collective’s “Peacebone” a few days back.
“Atlas” was the first video of his that caught my attention, and how could it not? Once again, the song had no real lyrical content to latch on to, so the challenge to any video maker was to just visually interpret the rhythms and electronic warblings of the song.
The mirror box is a brilliant concept–first of all, just as a reference to the album title itself, and then as a performance space that makes everything shimmer and extend out to infinity. I could go into some boring crap here about how, like the album, the mirrored box encases the band and represents a piece of them that will reflect off into infinity, but why bother?
All you should care about is that this band is playing in a big friggin’ box floating in SPACE! And just like everything you see on TV, it’s real.
Song: 6/10
Video: 8/10
Millennia from now that the space box will crash into another planet, bringing the gift of human music to the cosmos: 4
