Timothy Saccenti Takes Over the World: Part 1
Animal Collective
“Peacebone”
Album: Strawberry Jam
So keep an eye out for this guy: Timothy Saccenti. This video premiered on YouTube this week, and at first I had the sense it might be a Chris “You Probably Won’t Sleep After Watching My Videos” Cunningham video because of the design of the creature and some of the backlit, eerie camera work in the “Dark Room” section. A little excursion into the “more” section informed me that, no, it wasn’t the Brit FX master. It was Timothy Saccenti.
And why did I recognize that name? Because he ALSO directed the clip for Battles’ “Atlas” (more on that in the next post), which blew out not only my mind, but a number of other parts that are, according to my 9th grade health class, key to a properly functioning body.
Why do I laud him so? First of all, his composition and sense of color are fantastic. If you visit his website, (and I recommend you do) you’ll see he’s a photographer first and a video director second. This background serves him quite well, as his frames are hard to look away from. Between that and his playful edits that are made in complete subservience to the audio, he is able to successfully tackle projects for groups like Battles and Animal Collective that require a unique visual sense to interpret their rhythmic avant-rock.
Song: Meh…4/10
Video: 9/10
Chances I’m gonna crack another joke before the end of this post: Uh…I dunno, like 2…I’m tired. More better funny tomorrow!
