The Zutons - ‘Valerie’ Music Video Review | Better Than Amy Winehouse’ Version?
Yesterday, I reviewed the cover of this song by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse. So I though it fitting to take a look back at the original version of Valerie by The Zutons.
The Zutons are a band from Liverpool who I have been in to right from the start. They’ve now lost guitarist Boyan Chowdhury, who has set up his own band The Gravity Trap, but I’m hoping it won’t affect their sound too much.
It’s strange hearing this song again, because even though it’s only a year old, the Amy Winehouse version has been played so often it’s become the norm.
Which makes it strange to admit that I actually prefer this version. There’s just something about the feeling and power of it that is somehow lost with Mark Ronson’s treatment of the song.
The video is better toot, as although Mark Ronson’s is clever, The Zutons escape from an island prison! How much more do you want?
