The Eels - ‘Last Stop, This Town’ | A Genetically Modified Carrot Anyone?
The Eels have been pushing out alternative music for over 10 years now. They’re songs are both innovative, and original, and some would also say a tad weird.
This song is one of the strangest, but the song is nothing compared to the video.
In it, we get to see a carrot become genetically modified, and altered to look, sound, and almost be an exact replica of Eels lead singer Mark Oliver Everett, or Mr E to his friends.
We also get the brilliant interludes where the rest of the band are seen playing live, but in stop motion frames, going backwards and forwards. For some reason, the hairs on the back of my neck spring up every time I see that part of the video.
Once the carrot has transformed completely, he joins in the singing, and finished the song with Mr E.
And then the carrot or Mini Me, as I’m sure his friends may call him, gets his lifelong dream of getting a body, even though it is just a robot body. He then wanders off stage right, to supposedly lead his own life.
This is the sort of video I wish were made more often, both original and intriguing, and one which makes me want to listen to the song its associated with time and time again.
Song: 8/10
