The Breeders - Cannonball | One Of The Greatest Indie Anthems Ever…
This video is an absolute classic, being a true Indie anthem. Released by The Breeders, led by former Pixies band member Kim Deal in 1993, both the song and video still stand up against newer releases.
I love the song, partly because of the quiet sections getting completely blown away by the loud rocking sections, and partly because it’s a nearly all female group.
I’m not being sexist at all, but girl musicians do it for me 100%, especially drummers and bassists.
The song is catchy, although quite weird in its make up, but it all works really well when put together. Led by the guitars, it drags you, the listener, along with it right from beginning to the end.
The video isn’t really anything special, but for some reason, you can’t take your eyes off it. Mainly consisting of a band performance, maybe it’s the female musicians that keep me watching.
It’s also a video which fits the time it was made perfectly, with the colours, and styles of the time.
The only problem is that this video, released 14 years ago, is the pinnacle of The Breeders career, with them never reaching the same dizzy heights again.
Song: 9/10
