t.A.T.u/Tatu - ‘Beliy Plaschik’ Video Review | From Russian Lesbians To Nazis?
This is a bit of a strange detour for Killed by the Video Star, as unlike the usual British or American songs I feature here we have a Russian one from those lovable lesbians Tatu.
Well I say lesbians, when in actual fact they were never anything of the kind, and it was just two Russian girls acting gay as a gimmick and way of eliciting press coverage.
I don’t know about anyone else, but the fact that they were attractive schoolgirls, one ginger, and one brunette, was always enough for me… the lesbianism was just the icing on the cake.
If you don’t remember who these girls are, then you must either be female, or very old, as any red blooded male cannot fail to vividly recall the video for All The Things She Said.
On to the present day, and here we have Beliy Plaschik, which could mean anything as far as I’m concerned. Ignoring the obvious language barrier, I really like this song.
It has a kind of electro pop, almost techno feel to it, but with two really poppy voices singing over the top, which shouldn’t work, but does.
The video feature Lena, the ginger one as a kind of Nazi headhunter, who seems to be holding Yulia, the other one, in a detention centre.
The final shot of a pregnant Yulia being shot is quite shocking, but then what would you expect from a group which essentially consists of two fake lesbian schoolgirls wearing next to nothing?
Song: 7/10
Video: 8/10

Tatu was kind of controversial at first, then they turned out not to be lesbians, a big mistake in the concept perhaps. But the idea remains good, although they could have frisked eachother a bit less on stage. Obzowic.
Now:
This video shows they have grown up, and they clearly stated that it is a role play, so its not Yulia who is shot by Lena, but two distinct characters played.
The video is shocking indeed, showing two persons getting up in the morning, and ending up doing something very different. One gives the fire command, the other gets shot. It is sad it does not bring the discussion or reflection where it should be, the video is of good quality, there is a good story line, you should be shocked or at least moved by the pictures and the story it tells. Do not ignore the reality it reflects, look at it as a work from since they moved from a fresh start. It is a great piece of work, and i am amazed by them, the song and the video, we should take them very serious. And we should all buy the new album.

well the end is hard to swallow indeed. I just find it a bit lurid to start the whole post by putting the word Nazi in big letters. I didn’t see any Nazi symbols there. All I could understand from the singing is that the song seems to be about love (as almost every song) and most probably about unsatisfied love. so the black one is sentenced to death because she got pregnant, brushing her teeth for the very last time, she seems to be already knowing what there is to come. the other one walks to the jail knowing what she’s gonna do there. This gives a lot of room for interpretation, could be some kind of futuristic nightmare where relationships between men and women are forbidden, could be some dard fantasy russian fetish stuff, but where the heck did you drag that Nazi stuff into this from?
