Super Deluxe Weekend Update Fun! New Videos From Avril, Bright Eyes, Every Time I Die!
It’s the weekend. If you’re reading this, you’re probably bored or drunk, so I figure why not give you a little something special. That’s right, friends. Three–count ‘em–THREE new videos for you to chow down on.
Avril Lavigne
“Hot”
Album: The Best Damn Thing
Note: Avril, you’re an attractive woman. Some would say “hot.” (Get it?! LOLz!!11!1!) Unfortunately, when you put on a top hat and a mourning veil, you could win a Marilyn Manson look alike contest. 1st prize: A Mason jar with a fetus inside!

Bright Eyes
“Four Winds”
Album: Cassadaga
Patrick Daughters, for the win. Dark and stylish, this video begins by positioning Bright Eyes as a Sun Records band, straight out of early Nashville, complete with a country fair tent and an audience waiting to be thrilled by the sweet, down home sounds of a country band. Unfortunately, as front man Connor Oberst begins to spill his soul, that doesn’t exactly work out. This isn’t what the audience expected, and the 20 secondish long shot that holds on Connor from about 1:11 to 1:32 as the audience begins to boo perfectly captures that terrible awkwardness when an audience starts to turn on a performer. While Connor and the rest of the revolving door band that makes up Bright Eyes are certainly no Britney, they have their detractors. Those who hate the fact that an “emo” artist has matured into a smart, neo-country singer/ songwriter are probably the biggest of them all, and this video nails it–expectations are a bitch, but Bright Eyes just keeps on playing.

Every Time I Die
“We’rewolf”
Album: The Big Dirty
Speaking of awesome videos by brilliant lyricists whose well crafted words are occasionally obscured by warbled or screamed delivery…
These guys are ridiculous, and for as heavy and angry as they sound, every video they’ve ever done is entirely tongue in cheek. Who said hardcore can’t be fun? I like that attitude, and maybe it rubs off on how much I like ETID’s videos. The concept at work here is great, although not perfectly pulled off. The pink and blue lighting starts to wear on the eyes, and the movie parodies range from spot on to forced, but I don’t really care. Worst thing about the video? They had to change my favorite lyrics of the year from: “Which one of you sons of bitches is gonna make me feel alive?/Which one of you motherfuckers is gonna get inside my heart?” to “Which one of you *rotten lovers* is gonna me me feel alive?/Which one of you *lucky ladies* is gonna get inside my heart?” Shame.
