Soulja Boy Tell’Em - ‘Crank That’ Video Review | One Hit Wonder? - Let’s Hope So
Obviously I get to choose the music video that I review here on Killed By The Video Star, but I try to strike a nice blend of genres, and songs I like and hate.
This is one of those songs which falls in to the latter category, and is just a terrible attempt at creating a new sound. Okay, it is a new sound, but it’s only got the potential for one hit… and this is it.
I don’t even know how this did so well, hitting number one in the States for seven weeks, as there’s just nothing to it, where are the melody, the intelligent lyrics, or great production values? They’re MIA.
What we get is a man who seems to have been dressed by a blind person talking over the top of a tune made on a twelve year old kid’s keyboard.
Even the name, Soulja Boy, annoys me, and the fact that it’s written everywhere, including the song title, and on the guy’s shades just stinks of desperation.
I really hope this ends up being a one hit wonder, because if this guy becomes hugely popular and has a long music career, there clearly is no God.
