Shakira - ‘Whenever, Wherever’ Video Review | Confusing Breasts With Mountains… What?
Or I could have titled this ‘When Shakira Was Good’. That’s harsh because she is still a good performer, but her style has changed a hell of a lot since this song and video first brought her to the attention of everyone outside of her native Columbia.
I kind of preferred her in this form than the hip hop diva she has now become. Horses for courses, as I’m sure a lot of people reading this are thinking “Are you mad?” or words to that effect.
The song is catchy as hell, but it’s the video which made men everywhere sit up and look at the television screens a bit more closely.
She’s not wearing much in it, some sort of leather chaps and bra top combo… I like it.
The lyrics are bizarre, especially that breasts, mountains, confusion, small, humble line which I alluded to in the title. I’m glad she’s now talking English more lucidly, because that really just doesn’t make sense.
The part when the horses are stampeding towards the camera is very impressive. Not because of the horses you understand, but because Shakira stands there shaking her booty so well in the middle of them all. My eyes were transfixed.
Then we end on her frolicking about in some mud… what more could any man need in a pop video!
