Seether - ‘Fake It’ Music Video Review | Taking The Piss Out Of Music Videos

by Dave Parrack on February 6th, 2008

Seether haven’t really made it over to this side of the Atlantic ocean as of yet, so this is the first I’ve ever heard of them, but thankfully I like what I hear.

Sometimes that is the beauty of being British, as you only get to hear the best music that comes out of America, and can avoid the vast majority of the crap that is pumped out on a daily basis.

This song, titled Fake It is clearly about people who fake things to fit in, or make out they are something they are not. Judging by the accompanying video, it also seems to be more specifically about the music industry.

The sound of the band is very much Marilyn Manson, although I’m not sure if Seether would appreciate the comparison. The lead singer’s voice isn’t as unique as Manson’s though, and much more mainstream.

The video cleverly mimics the lyrics by showing the band in a number of fake situations, which you obviously see musicians doing all the time in over exaggerated pop videos, and performances.

The best bit is seeing a Photoshop job in action, with the model’s face manipulated until you can’t hardly recognise her. Good song, and great video.

Song: 8/10

Good, catchy mainstream tune. I’ll admit to liking it, but I also think we’ve got much better to offer.
