Santana Feat. Chad Kroeger - Into The Night Video Review | Why Carlos, Why?
Collaborations in music can be a brilliant thing, making a song much better than it was purely by the introduction of a second artist, or a bit of new blood in to the mix.
I’ve featured quite a few here on Killed by the Video Star, and have been quite praising of the results. But why, Carlos Santana, why on earth, did you choose Chad Kroeger to collaborate with?
Carlos Santana is one of the best guitarists ever, probably in the top 10 in the world ever to have lived, and the man he chooses to team up with is that beardy weirdo from Nickelback, who no-one likes.
Therefore the song is brilliant… right up until Kroeger’s croaky vocals kick in, and then it all goes completely to shit. If only it had remained an instrumental!
Santana’s guitar playing remains astounding throughout the song, but the vocals just kill it dead, and stop it from being the song it should be, and all because of a bad choice of collaborator.
The video too would be brilliant, if it wasn’t for Kroeger’s smarmy face staring back at you as you watch. Santana isn’t exactly the best looking guy in the world, but I’d take him over Chad any day.
Song with Kroeger: 3/10
Video with Kroeger: 2/10
Song without Kroeger: 8/10
Video without Kroeger: 7/10

It sounds to me like you know shit and might be just a wee bit jealous. It is a great song, and Chad’s voice sounds just fine. In fact, I think it fits the song perfectly. But hey…to each his own, right?
I give it a strong 8/10 just the way it is.

Melody: Boring
Lyrics: Yawn
Singing: So-so
Guitar playing: So-so during the singing (I could not believe it was Santana.)
Overall: About as much taste and impact as those cheap after dinner mints that are sold by the pound.
