Rihanna - ‘Take A Bow’ Music Video Review
I’ve had a mixed view of Rihanna since she burst on to the scene last year with the hugely successful Umbrella. I know she’d been around before that (figuratively speaking) but I’d never heard of her.
At first, I rallied against the popularity, and found the song dull, and highly unoriginal. But it grew on me, as did every other song she’s released since. I still don’t like the blatant sampling/stealing of other’s work, but I can forgive her.
And so we come to her latest song, a blatant love song called Take A Bow, which is very different to anything else I’ve heard from her.
It’s a brave decision on her part to release a song which stops the trend of up-tempo dance hits which she’s become known, and hugely popular for, for a cheesy, slow love ballad. And I’m not sure I like the new Rihanna.
The song is actually not bad, with a strong, though derivative beat, and her voice playing over the top nicely. But it doesn’t make me want to get up and dance - instead I want to throttle the cat.
The video is boring, but then pretty much all love songs have boring videos, it’s meant to set the mood or something. However, Rihanna herself looks hotter in this video than ever before, and I love the shorter hair.
Song: 6/10
Video: 4/10
Short Hair: 9/10
