Pendulum - ‘Propane Nightmares’ Music Video Review | Combining Rock & Electronica

by Dave Parrack on May 6th, 2008

Pendulum are a new Australian band who have relocated to the UK as they know it is the Mecca of decent music. Just ask Dave over at Brit Music Scene, oh hang on that’s me! However, don’t tell Lauren at Oz Music Scene, or she’ll kill me.

After starting as producers and remixers, they are now starting to record their own original material, and this song, Propane Nightmares, is the second from new album In Silico.

This is the first thing I’ve heard from them, and I immediately love the combination of heavy rock guitars with a 1980s sounding synth based Electronica vibe.

They remind me heavily of The Prodigy, and it’s no surprise that they remixed Voodoo People earlier on in their career. There’s also a touch of the Klaxons about them, so the UK is probably perfect for them.

Propane Nightmares does have a bit of an amateurish feel to it, which is a shame as you can tell all the building block are present for a massively successful song. It just never quite gets there.

The video is bizarre yet very watchable, showing the band attending some sort of cult religious gathering, or even a baptism. What the hell it has to do with the song though, I’ve got no idea.

Song: 7/10
Video: 8/10
