Killed By The Video Star

P. Diddy Feat. Keyshia Cole - ‘Last Night’ Music Video Review | Better Than Soulja Boy

by Dave Parrack on April 13th, 2008

Any regular readers of this site (if there is any, I’m not sure judging by the lack of comments I get) will know that I’m not a big fan of the current generation of Rap/R’n'B artists around.

It’s just that most of them are generic and pretty untalented, just putting the same crap out there as their predecessors in the hope of making some money.

This is P. Diddy’s Last Night, and I listened to it expecting the same sort of rubbish that I’ve come to expect of late. However, this is actually pretty decent.

It’s helped by the fact there’s not just Puffy, but Keyshia Cole, Pharrell, and T.I. on it as well. It adds variety, and something which should appeal to most.

The tune is very strong, and means that the song isn’t just relying on the singing talent to get it through. Diddy and Keyshia do a good job on top of it.

The video is also a little different than the usual fare, with a bit ore of an arty feel to it, and some great artistic style shots which lifts this above your generic rap video crap.

Not the strongest Diddy song by any means, but it holds up against the current trend for just chucking songs out there and hoping it sticks. I’m thinking Soulja Boy here… worst artist ever!

Song: 7/10
Video: 8/10
