Notorious BIG Feat. P Diddy & Mase - ‘Mo Money, Mo Problems’ Music Video Review

I’ve been quite critical of the new breed of hip-hop and rap videos here on Killed By The Video Star during my stay, bemoaning many for their lack of innovation, or stunning visuals, instead relying on half-naked women to fill the void left by the former.
So it’s nice to be able to review a rap song and video that I adore. Mo Money, Mo Problems is one of the best hip-hop videos ever made, right up there with Missy Elliot’s Get Ur Freak On, and Hard Knock Life by Jay-Z.
Okay, so the main bassline may have been completely ripped off, and the main man credited with the song may be dead, but it’s still brilliant. Even ignoring Biggy for a moment, Mase and Diddy are both on top form.
The multi-coloured shell suits may not be something I’d wear in public, or even in the privacy of my own home, but they work while Mase and Diddy mess around in various locales and situations.
This song and video was released right at the height of bling, with rappers (in particular) starting to realise that wearing some expensive jewellery and driving an expensive car can make up for any other shortcomings you may have.
As with all the best songs, this is still pretty relevant today. Mo Money (how gangsta am I?) could indeed just add Mo Problems… but I’d like the opportunity to find out!
