Noah and The Whale - ‘Five Years Time’ Music Video Review | Defining The Word Kooky
Noah and The Whale is a strange name for a band. but then one listen to this song, Five Years Time, the British indie band’s first song to reach the top 40 in the UK, will tell you that they are inherently strange, and so the name is rather fitting.
Despite being a huge fan of the Brit music scene, this is my first sighting of this particular band, so I didn’t really know what to expect. What I ended up getting was a kind of feel good retro act that made me smile… never an easy thing to do.
Five Years Time is a strange song, but one which not only had me smiling, but also tapping my foot, and on the second listen, singing along. At its heart is a retro group who seem to be immensely enjoying what they are doing.
It’s a brave decision to base a song around a ukulele, but that is exactly what they have done here. But it works immensely well, and when the rest of the instruments, and the catchy chorus kick in, it all seems to fit together like a jigsaw.
The video seems to define the word kooky, all being shot in an old skool style, giving it a cine film-type quality. While there’s no plot, it does show the band having a good time, and gives a good indication of the sort of band this is.
Noah and The Whale have been getting some attention on both sides of the Atlantic, and their new album, Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, is due out over the next couple of months in both the UK and the US.
