Missy Elliott - ‘Ching A Ling’ Music Video Review | From ‘Step Up 2 The Streets’
I’ve always liked Missy Elliott, as unlike a lot of the other Hip-Hop artists out there, she seems to always strive for originality, without resting on her laurels or being lazy.
She’s continued this trend with the first single from her forthcoming, as yet untitled album, which also appears on the Step Up 2 The Streets soundtrack.
Ching A Ling may be a terrible title, but the song is top. From the moment you hear her voice come out of the darkness, you know she’s back, and with a vengeance.
The first half of the song is very basic, with just a rhythm and a mellowed out, kind of chilled rap over the top. But it rocks, and some of the lyrics are truly inspired.
Like the song, the video is split in to two halves. The first features Elliott along with Japanese dance group U-Min, who are famous (over there at least) for their slow motion body popping.
The second half then sees us transported to a house party, where the song goes up a gear, and it all builds to a brilliant crescendo.
Song: 8/10
Video: 7/10
