M.I.A - ‘Paper Planes’ Music Video Review | Another British Artist Big In The States
M.I.A. is a British artist that is virtually unheard of here in the UK, while getting more and more well known in the US. Kind of like the Scissor Sisters or The Killers (at least when they first came out) but in reverse.
This song, called Paper Planes, has been out for a while in North America, but only came out this week in Britain, hence the somewhat slow review of it here on Killed By The Video Star.
I get the feeling it’s going to be a love/hate thing, with some people citing her as the next big thing, while a lot of people will wonder what the fuss is all about.
Right now, having not heard much more than this song a few times, I am somewhere in the middle, with her style and voice growing on me slowly but surely.
The song is quite repetitive, but then it is hip hop at the end of the day. But along with that, it’s also very catchy, and almost addictive in its delivery.
The video is nothing special, just showing a kind of montage of M.I.A. miming, mixed in with scenes of what looks like New York. It does hold enough interest to be watchable though, even if its just once.
Song: 7/10
Video: 5/10
