Marilyn Manson - ‘Putting Holes in Happiness’ Video Review | Not Actually That Weird
If I was a music video director, I think I’d do exactly what this one did when presented with the opportunity to work with marilyn Manson, basically just stick him, his band, and some other strange people in a room and say “Be weird”.
I mean what else can you do with him? Really. This video doesn’t even manage to pull off the weird vibe very well, with a totally uninspired performance for the cameras. Maybe Marilyn is just bored with being that satanic figure of fun we all think he is now.
The song isn’t that good either, being boring, and almost a goth paint by numbers, totally failing to deliver the kind of ghoulish thrills we’ve come to expect, nay demand from Mr Manson.
If I have to watch any more videos of Marilyn in thick eyeliner, cavorting around on the floor as if he’s having sex with the devil himself, I think I’ll poke my own eyes out.
Also, what is it about the hands? 60% of any Manson video seems to purely consist of him doing a funny finger movement close to the camera lens. Ooh, scary.
I think the Manson thing may have passed, and it’s time he settled down, retired to the country, and had lots of kids. Now that IS scary.
