Marillion - ‘Easter’ Music Video Review | It Is Easter After All, Allow Me To Indulge
Is it Easter today? Oh crap, I’d better get to the shops and buy some Easter eggs for my nearest and dearest then. Or I could just listen to Easter by Marillion.
I’m reviewing this song today for no other reason than it is Easter Sunday, it’s as simple as that. I bet lead singer Steve Hogarth is glad he named it after an annual celebration now!
I think if I ever start writing songs in the hope of releasing them, and becoming fabulously wealthy and famous, then I’ll make sure I do a Christmas, Easter and New Year song to guarantee some yearly plays.
Luckily this is actually a good song, and not just an excuse to get an Easter airing every year, It won’t be for everyone, and coming from 1990, it’s pretty dated now, but still, I like it.
It reminds me of a simpler time, and a time when easy listening rock ballads ruled the airwaves. The lyrics are haunting, and the whole song conjures up some great emotions.
The video is very much of its time, and story driven too. It works on this occasion though, and watched in context makes for compelling viewing.
Happy Easter… are the shops still open?
