Lupe Fiasco - ‘Paris, Tokyo’ Music Video Review | Stupid Title, Good Song
Before I can start seriously talking about this song and video, I have to get two things out of the way first:
1. What a stupid name for a song. Not only does it read as if Paris is in Tokyo, when we know it’s really in Germany, but it’s a lazy name. There’s no thought gone in to it.
2. In the same way as Lupe Fiasco tried to hoodwink us in to believing “brung” was a word in his big hit, Superstar, he’s now trying to make out that it’s normal to pronounce “passport as “passpurt”. Idiot.
Phew, now that’s out of the way, let’s take a proper, in-depth look at the song and video.
This isn’t as good as Superstar by any means, it just doesn’t have that same crossover appeal. But it is a nice slice of chilled out, kind of old school Hip-hop which I must admit, isn’t too bad.
I know, shock horror, a rap song I actually like. I think the last one was Ice Cube’s Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It!
The video isn’t too bad either. Okay, it never quite gets to the level it should do, and it started out so well too, but for a Rap song, it’s surprisingly mellow and watchable.
There’s still the presence of some good looking women (I think rappers get chucked out of some club if they release a video without women in it), but these ones are at least dressed.
