LL Cool J - ‘Rocking With The G.O.A.T.’ Official Music Video Review | A Knockout Blow
Rocking With The G.O.A.T. is the new single from LL Cool J, and I’m impressed. This is a man who seemed to have left hip-hop behind to become a part-time actor, family man, and all-round good guy. But judging by this song, he’s still got it.
This is the first single of his new forthcoming album called Exit 13, which is set to be the last album he makes for Def Jam, hence the name. It sounds like LL is trying to go out on a high, and has gone back to his roots once again.

The song is old skool, with a simple bassline, and LL Cool J doing his thing over the top. This is what rapping should be about, ignoring all the old samples, and bells and whistles that are added, and just getting down to business.
I love the police siren sample cutting in on the rhythm, as it immediately adds an old skool flavour to proceedings, and also adds to the bad boy image LL is clearly trying to put across.
The video is also really well done. I love that it is filmed entirely in black and white, and adore the simplicity of it. There’s no storyline, other than LL Cool J seen training for a fight, and working out, ready to take on all comers.
LL Cool J reminds me of Ice Cube in that he is one of rap’s great survivors. Other artists have come and gone, but these two remain in the business doing what they do, without the need for any great accolades or plaudits. Brilliant song, and from a hopefully brilliant album.
Song: 8/10
