Linkin Park - ‘Shadow Of The Day’ | Softly, Softly, Riot, Riot
I like a bit of Linkin Park from time to time. Yes I know all their songs sound very samey, seeming to follow a blueprint that the band found out worked and so stuck with it, but I don’t care, they rock. Well usually they do, expect for with this song, where they’ve tried what can only be described as a rock ballad.
So the song isn’t really my cup of tea, and I’m British so I knows me tea. The video however is well done, a slow build up leading to an all out riot. I just wish the song had followed suit, and actually gone somewhere other than dullsville.
The imagery in the video is quite intense, showing a war torn world full of violence. It also has quite a lot of symbolism, such as the alarm clock that wakes Chester Bennington up right at the start. It shows 11:55, which obviously references the Minutes To Midnight album which this song comes from.
Unfortunately it also shows a little bit too much of Chester wearing not much in the way of clothing, which as a heterosexual bloke I could have done with a bit less of. However, I’m sure there’ll be some female teenage emos who have never seen anything so tasty.
Chester, the lead singer of the band is actually the only member of the band in the video, which for Linkin Park is quite a diversion from the norm.
It’s a good video, unfortunately promoting a bit of a lame song. Just go back to the formula we talked about earlier, it ain’t broke, so why bother trying to fix it!
Song: 3/10
Video: 8/10
