Leona Lewis - ‘Bleeding Love’ | From The X Factor To Chart Topping Diva
When I first saw Leona Lewis on The X Factor, I wasn’t actually that impressed, but she did improve through the course of the series to become one of the best singers the reality television show, and talent contest has ever seen.
After releasing the obligatory number one single in the UK, she then disappeared, and I wondered if she’d gone the way of so many other reality TV stars: namely the job centre.
Instead, it seems she was away perfecting her craft, and making an album which has now broken records in going to the top of the British charts.
This was her comeback song, and it did incredibly well. I reviewed it on Brit Music Scene after just one listen and wasn’t too keen, but it’s certainly a grower, and is continuing to dominate.
The video proves my title correct, showing Leona has broken out of her cage as a mere talent show winner, and has now become a true diva of statuesque proportions.
They did a good job with the video, concentrating mainly on showing Leona singing, and being sultry with it. They also interspersed scenes which mirror the song’s lyrics, and show what’s going on in various flats in a luxury block.
My only criticism is the unnecessary water scene, with Leona getting showered in the water from a fire sprinkler. This is one of the oldest tricks in the music video directors book, and just makes me cringe these days.
Song: 8/10
Video: 7/10
