Kylie Minogue - ‘In My Arms’ Music Video Review | Like The 1980s All Over Again

by Dave Parrack on April 24th, 2008

Kylie Minogue is huge in the UK, Europe, Japan, and her native Australia, but America just doesn’t seem to have taken her to their hearts like the rest of the world. She’s the female Robbie Williams in that respect.

This song, In My Arms, is the third from her new album, X, which is her in turn her tenth studio album - pretty amazing for a woman who started out as a bad actress in a bad soap opera.

Both the song and the video are retro to the nth degree, immediately transporting me back to the 1980s, which isn’t a decade I’d really like to go back to, unless I’m playing Guitar Hero: Rock The 80s of course.

The song is very old school, and reminds me of early Kylie. Not the I Should Be So Lucky, Stock, Aitken and Waterman days of Pop crapness, but after when she became good enough to be listened to by more than just 10 year old girls.

I find it a bit dull until the chorus kicks in, but then we get Kylie at her finest, wrapping her tongue around the soppy lyrics in a way only she knows how.

The video is like a barrage of day-glo goodness, with bright colours, curly hair and shell suits being the order of the day. If you liked the 1980s, you’re guaranteed to like this.

Song: 7/10
Video: 6/10
