Kanye West - ‘Stronger’ | More Confusing, More Expensive… Nice Glasses Though
Kanye West is obviously in the news at the moment, due to the sudden and unexpected death of his mother. I feel really bad for the guy, because not only is that a terrible experience, he’s doing it under the full gaze of the media, and while trying to complete a world tour.
But, that doesn’t excuse the crappiness of this video, because it was completed before any of the latest badness happened in his life.
It’s not that it’s an inherently bad video, it’s just damn confusing with so many things going on, none of which have anything to do with the song. A song which I actually like by the way, although I wish Daft Punk, who are heavily sampled on it got more credit than they actually do.
I don’t know where the money from the extraordinarily large budget actually went because a large portion of the video is just Kanye rapping in front of a concrete wall. I could have have done that for a few dollars and the odd meal as payment.
We also get two actors dressed up to look somewhat like Daft Punk, the French house DJs who Kanye shamelessly pilfers from. But they don’t actually seem to do anything except sit at a couple of monitors pressing the occasional button. That’s almost as worthy a job as blogging.
And then the Akira references kick in. Now, many of you may not even have heard of this Japanese Manga film, even though it’s probably the most famous animé film ever, and certainly the most commercial in the west.
We get the brake light effects on the motorcycles, scenes in hospitals, and scanning equipment, but like so much of this video it seems like they tried to bundle loads of ideas in, without taking any of them anywhere of note.
So we get lots of flashing lights, and visual effects, some random Akira references, and the odd bit of Kanye rapping to camera… and that cost $1 million? Man, they woz robbed.
Nice glasses though.

I HATE the video even more than I love the song! It’s stopped me from downloading the song, because I can’t forget about the horrible video!!

You all have nothing better to do than to sit on your cpu’s and hate on dat man like that. Its art, its everything that doesn’t make sense… If your minds were a little more open, you could see what its about… Im tired of seeing the same videos with half naked women everywhere and if i did i’d just look at an old video. This video is the new age thats here. A revolutionized, more insired more creative, less normal more on the verge of great… My prayers go out to the West Family.

I don’t sit on my cpu, in fact I don’t own one, although I do have a nice PC if that’s what you meant.
I don’t hate Kanye, and even admit to liking the song, but the video is crap.

Not sure why he was surprised he didn’t win video awards for this one. Money does not equal good video.
