Janet Jackson - ‘Rock With U’ Music Video Review | The Song That Never Gets Going
Janet Jackson made her comeback after a while away out of the limelight in January of this year, when she released Feedback, the first song from the Discipline album.
I hated that song, and the video was even worse. So here we are reviewing the second release, Rock With U, just two letters shy of being Rock With You by older brother Michael.
Janet seems to have carried on the trend on trying to reinvent herself in to some sort of techno dance chick, and the vocoding/auto-tune effect is back, although thankfully used less than last time.
The song is a weird one, being really catchy, despite having virtually nothing to it. A simple beat, and a chorus which is basically a whispered “Rock with u” works, but I don’t know why.
I found myself spending the whole song waiting for it to kick in and start properly, but it never does, and that’s a shame because the simple structure could have been built on much better.
The video is interesting, but not one I could watch time and time again. There’s definitely influences from Madonna and Kylie Minogue in there, but it just doesn’t do it for me.
Song: 6/10
Video: 4/10
