Janet Jackson - ‘Feedback’ Video Review | Enough With The Auto-Tune Already!
Wow, Janet Jackson has been away a while, and then comes back with this piece of shit. It wouldn’t be a bad song if it wasn’t for the vocoding/auto-tune effect all over it… what’s happened? Has Janet lost the ability to sing in tune by herself?
She’s done what I expected her to, which is look at what else is going on in the music industry, and then stolen/copied from those to create her own hybrid. It’s what the long running artists need to do to stay successful.
The best example of this method is Madonna, who has reinvented herself more times than I’ve changed my boxer shorts. But I’m not entirely sure whether Jackson has pulled it off with this release.
In the video she’s going for a look akin to a cross between a slutty version of Rihanna, and a bit of Beyonce rump shaking. But Janet is too old to be shaking that rump, and she’s not as fit as Rihanna by any stretch of the imagination.
The song ends up just being an experimental mess of electronic sounds, which unfortunately includes her voice, which has had the worst manipulation done to it since Cher’s Believe.
As for the video, well again, it’s another mess, being boring and exhibiting none of the style they were obviously gunning for. I wanted to stop watching after the first minute but subjected myself for my readers sake.
It ends up looking like a bad approximation of a Missy Elliott video circa 1999, and that’s not really where Janet should be heading. Is that sufficient feedback for you Ms. Jackson? Good, now shut up.

wow i can’t believe you hate it so much. i didn’t like it much when i first heard it, but now i can’t get enough of it. the video is a bit of a mess, but there are some interesting things going on and more importantly, it’s different than any of her other videos. i would be very surprised if this doesn’t become one of the biggest hits of the year.

I actually have to say I think the song is pretty hot! I heard it in a couple different clubs last night and and packed the floor! And I like the video too. It’s very unexpected and that’s great to see from a pop artist for once! And there is actually a storyline for the video. 9 planets, 9 dancers, “milky way” etc. Art doesn’t always need to be so literal. Give it another chance. I think Janet is really back this time!

I have to say I think Janet is making a bit of a mistake taking herself down this road. She IS getting too old for this kind of thing, the song is NOT that good and Janet doesn’t need to be “back”. Something about this whole thing strikes me like she’s trying too hard to keep her career afloat.
Shock horror, a song with a storyline! What ever will song writers think of next! To be honest I’d be surprised if this actually does turn into one of the biggest hits of the year, there’s so much more out there these days that no one needs and old has-been like her. Career come-backs are overrated, DaveP’s got good taste and you guys need to go get yourselves some too.
