Ice Cube - ‘Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It’ Video Review | Stop Blaming Pop Culture!
Ice Cube is back, and he hasn’t lost any of his bite. This song, Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It, is a great piece of classic hip hop, with rhymes straight out of the mid 1990s, but that’s not bad thing.
I’ve known of, and liked Ice Cube’s stuff since way back in the day when he was a member of NWA, and even though he’s been more of an actor than anything else in the past few years, this song proves he’s still a talented music artist.
The song is going to cause controversy as it deals with the blame that music, particularly rap, gets over every thing which is seen as wrong with society these days.
Cube sarcastically lists things, and denies the blame, as it was just rap music which made him do it.
I’m sure there’ll be people who won’t understand the mocking nature of the song, and think he is seriously blaming his chosen genre of music for the ills of society.
The video meanwhile is a brilliant mixture of news footage, from the war, to murders, and Cube rapping in a quite striking black and white filtered light.
This is a cracking song, with a serious message which I couldn’t agree more. Politicians and journalists need to start looking at the root of the problems rather than blaming it all on music, and other elements of pop culture.
Song: 9/10
