Gnarls Barkley - ‘Run’ Music Video Review | Failing To Repeat The Success Of ‘Crazy’
Along with millions of other people around the world, I was entranced by Gnarls Barkley in 2006 when they released the magnificent Crazy.
I may be sick to the back teeth of it now, unless it’s one of the bizarre remixes which are all over YouTube, but at the time it was a breath of fresh air, and remained top of the charts for weeks.
Unfortunately, when a first single hits that big, the artist who made it spends the rest of their career struggling to repeat the success, and that looks like what’s happening to Gnarls Barkley.
This release is called Run, and to be perfectly frank, it’s decidedly average. It’s not the worst song I’ve ever heard but it also has none of the appeal which made Crazy so big.
The song has an average melody, sounding like a cross between a speeded up porn film, and a 1970s Blaxploitation movie. And then there’s the singing, which is just bad in my opinion.
I know it’s the same guy that sung Crazy, but that just seemed to work, whereas this doesn’t.
The video is a lesson in how not to excite your audience, as it does nothing new, and just ends up being a pile of overblown, boring crap.

I’m finding myself reluctantly agreeing with you. I really wanted to like this single.
