Estelle feat. Kanye West - ‘American Boy’ Music Video Review | She’s British You Know
I’m proud right now, as yet another British female artist seems to have gone to America and started to get noticed, and this one is actually pretty decent.
Amy Winehouse has been admired from afar, while Natasha Bedingfield and Joss Stone have fled the UK to find fame and fortune in the States, with varying degrees of success.
Estelle is a singer, producer, rapper and all round good egg from London, England, who had some success with a couple of singles in 2004 before scuttling to the US.
This song is the first off her new album, which is being produced by Will.I.Am, Wyclef Jean, Mark Ronson, Cee-lo, Swizz Beatz and John Legend, amongst others.
Getting Kanye West involved was a stroke of genius, as it means Estelle will automatically get airplay and known to a wider audience than she may have done otherwise.
The song is brilliant, featuring mainly her, but with a bit of Kanye at each end (so to speak). She sounds better than ever before, so the sunny weather must have done her some good.
The video is nothing special, but it does continue the trend in recent months for black and white videos, with the Barack Obama Yes We Can video the best example.
Song: 8/10
Video: 6/10

I very proud of Estelles efforts. To pull off reaching a new market, releasing a fresh sounding banger of an album and maintaining your essence is hard, but shes done it.
I actually like the starkness of the ‘American Boy’ video…
Im definitely spending money on it.
