Erykah Badu - ‘Honey’ Music Video Review | A Comeback Full Of Album Covers
br>
Erykah Badu? Man, I haven’t heard of her for at least 10 years, but it seems she’s back from wherever she’s been and is sounding pretty damn good.
Right, enough of this guesswork, I’d better go and read Wikipedia, and catch up on what she’s been doing with herself over the past decade.
That’s better. So it is a comeback of sorts, after she took time out of the limelight to have two children (one with Andre 3000, and one with rapper The D.O.C.) and suffered from a bit of writers block.
Well, she seems to be over that as both this song and video are brilliant.
Honey has a real funky feel to it, with Badu’s unique voice trailing itself all over the bassline, and almost seventies porn backing track.
The video has Erykah superimposed, or spoofing numerous album covers. It ends up being funny while clever enough to keep you watching from beginning to end. I especially like the Grace Jones imitation, and the De La Soul is a joy to behold.
I don’t know if her and Andre 3000 are on good terms now, but it seems as though she’s having a pop at him in this video. Is it me or is the section stating at 2:40 a complete piss take of Outkast’s Hey Ya?
Song: 8/10
Video: 8/10
