Electric Six - ‘Gay Bar’ Music Video Review | Camp Goodness In All Its Glory
Writing this blog throws up some weird incidents, and this video is one of those. I haven’t heard or seen the video for this song for ages, but when I stumbled across it the other day (don’t ask me what I was searching for on YouTube… please), I knew I had to review it.
It’s a classic piece of camp goodness, and still makes me laugh every time I watch it. After this came out, I thought it was so good that Electric Six would surely go on to be huge, but that has never happened.
The song is brilliant, with ludicrous lyrics, in a good way, and a rocking guitar track which makes me whip out the air guitar every time and strum away.. huhum.
I don’t know if they were on drugs when they wrote it, but man, it’s a severely screwed up song, which just seems to lampoon gay culture, politicians, and politicians who take part in gay culture.
Yes, you guessed it, I haven’t really got a clue about the meaning of the song. I assume it’s like a fake criticism of gay people, but is actually ridiculing politicians. I guess. Hmm. Next!
The video is inspired, with the lead singer dressed up as Abraham Lincoln, just with the added bonus of some leather chaps for good measure.
The imagery is clearly meant to titillate, amuse, and be visual double entendres for things being inserted in various orifices, but I think we all already got that part.
In conclusion, I haven’t got a fricking clue what it’s about, but it’s brilliant nonetheless.
Song: 9/10
