By Jove, This Woman Tastes Of Sweet, Fruit Pastries!
Sade (WARRANT!)
“Cherry Pie”
Album: Cherry Pie, or, Sade Sucks, But I Had To Put Something Here.
I can’t even tell you how upset I am that I can’t embed Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” video on this page. That’s all I wanted to do when I woke up this morning–write about the majesty of that video. I caught it on YouTube the other day and found myself unable to look away from the bright red drums made of pie, the casual objectification of women, and the fact that the band clearly wrote this as a riff on “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” and had the misfortune of a music executive listening to it.
Sure enough, according to Wikipedia (the most complete and accurate source of the world’s knowledge since we lost the Library of Alexandria) Warrant didn’t even want to include “Cherry Pie” on the album, but their label insisted on it. Normally, I’m all for artists’ rights and would be appalled at such a blatant attempt at to shoehorn a band into a direction or image that they didn’t approve of, but…I mean…
SWEET CHERRY PIIIEE!
Also, 10 points to whoever can tell me what they chant at the beginning. It sounds like “Rock! Paper! Scissors!” to me, but that only makes slightly more sense than “Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! Heart!,” so I’m stumped.
