Britney Spears - ‘Piece Of Me’ Music Video Review | Paparazzi Baiting Extravaganza
This song, and consequently, the video, have been out for a while now, and I’ll be honest, I was trying to avoid putting them on to Killed By the Video Star.
I haven’t got anything against Britney Spears, although I think she has definitely got some “issues” (putting it very mildly) to attend to right now, but dissing this single has been done to death.
But, I’m now hearing it everywhere I go, in shops, on the radio, on the jukebox in the local pub, although that last one is only because a deluded friend of mine thinks it’s good, and sings along every time.
So here it is, and here’s the dissing that traditionally follows the embed.
It’s not that bad a song, although anyone who actively calls it good needs a good slapping upside the head. It’s quite catchy, and Britney’s affected singing voice carries the vicious lyrics off quite nicely.
The song is clearly about Britney herself, and how everyone still wants a piece of her. She’s especially referring to the paparazzi who follow her everywhere she goes.
I’ve seen some of the videos of her being chased down the road while she nips out for a coffee, and it truly is enough to send anyone a bit doolally.
The video is shit though, there’s no two ways about it. It tries to tell the story of her rallying against the press and trying to live her life, but just ends up as a mess.
Okay song, crap video. Which is a bit like Britney’s life in itself: Okay singer, crap human being. Harsh but true.
Song: 6/10
Video: 3/10
