Beastie Boys - Intergalactic | Protective Outfits & Giant Robots, What More Could You Ask?
Like the Foo Fighters, who I featured yesterday here on Killed By The Video Star, the Beastie Boys are a group wh take their music videos seriously… well not literally, as their usually full of humour, but you know what I mean.
You can expect to see quite a few Beastie Boys videos cropping up here over the next few months, but we start with Intergalactic.
This song is one of my favourite ever Beasties tracks, and I was so pleased the first time I saw the video, that it had one to match the quality and nature of the song.
I think why it works so well, apart from the Japanese style fight between some sea dwelling Godzilla-alike and a giant robot from outer space, is the interplay between the three of them.
It’s integral to the group’s sound, style and success, and translates really well through to their videos too.
I love the scenes of them wandering through Tokyo in their protective boiler suits, taking it in turns to hog the camera. I can only imagine what the Japanese bystanders thought of it all though.
The whole thing works magnificently, telling a story (intentionally naff), and keeping me amused and entertained for the 3 minutes or so it’s on, which is all a music video is meant to do surely?
Song: 9/10
Video: 9/10
