Killed By The Video Star

Beastie Boys - ‘Alive’ Video Review | Multi-Coloured Synchronised Goodness

by Dave Parrack on February 20th, 2008

It’s time for some old skool New York hip hop now, and for that we need to turn to none other than the Beastie Boys, who long before Eminem, were proving white people can rap.

I’ve already reviewed Intergalactic on Killed By The Video Star, which I of course loved, and Alive is no different in that respect, being a quirky song, and having the Beastie Boys trademark humour all over the video.

For starters, they’ve dressed themselves up in brightly coloured romper suits, which takes balls, and then they’ve proven their manliness even more by walking, scootering and bouncing around Manhattan.

The song pretty much follows the pattern that we’ve come to expect from them too, with a cool, yet offbeat (in more ways than one) bassline, and some synchronised hip hop laid over the top.

Song: 7/10
Video: 9/10
