Ashlee Simpson - ‘Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)’ Music Video Review | Damn, I Like It!
We don’t normally get any Ashlee Simpson songs released over here in the UK, maybe because her record company realises they are too crap to release anywhere but America.
However, they have seen fit to release this little pop gem called Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya), and I’m glad they did.
I know what you’re thinking - “Dave, how, why, what? You like this? But it’s a crappy pop record which you would usually turn your nose up at!” Which is all true, but I can’t help myself.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still don’t like Ashlee or her even less talented singer Jessica (she seems to get paid just for looking like the woman every America man dreams of marrying), but I do like this one song.
I do however give more credit to the songwriters than Ashlee herself. She may have had a hand in it, but like all manufactured pop stars these days, I’m guessing (allegedly, etc etc) she had help, and it shows.
The song is as Pop as you can get, reminding me of Britney Spears in her heyday but brought right up to date. Basically this could have been Brit’s song if she hadn’t had a mental and career breakdown.
The beat is catchy as hell, only beaten by the chorus which drags you in to Ashlee’s screwed up world whether you want to enter or not. It’s also one of those addictive songs that once heard once, you need to hear again.
The video is also brilliant, and a real breath of fresh air for an offering from a bit U.S. Pop singer. It’s inventive, and weird, yet goes with the song perfectly, as it shows Ashlee’s state of mind, or lack of it.
What’s strange is that this did terribly in the States when released. Maybe the Europop type sound will do better on this of the Atlantic.
Song: 8/10
Video: 9/10
