Adele - ‘Cold Shoulder’ Music Video Review | Not As Good As ‘Chasing Pavements’
Adele and Duffy both seemed to come from nowhere and burst on to the music scene in the wake of the success enjoyed by Amy Winehouse on both sides of the Atlantic.
In terms of first singles, Duffy was more successful, with Mercy making it to number one in the British singles chart. I personally preferred Adele’s Chasing Pavements.
Now we are gearing up for another battle, as both are looking to their second singles to see how much staying power they have in the industry.
Adele has gone first, and here is her second single, Cold Shoulder. My first thought is how similar it is to the last - not in beat and tune, but the singing style is exactly the same.
Whether this is a good thing or not is dependent on whether you like her brand of almost theatrical quivery singing. I am, although I wish she’d stop with all the weird facial expressions.
The video is very simple, and not a patch on Chasing Pavements. That’s not to say its bad, simple in this case works, but there’s not much to make you watch after the first time.
It’s not the strongest second single by any means, but it will keep her in the public eye. If Duffy now comes out with something really special, I think she could again trounce Adele in any chart battle.
Song: 7/10
Video: 6/10
