Adele - ‘Chasing Pavements’ Video Review | Yet Another Amy Winehouse Contender?

by Dave Parrack on March 3rd, 2008

Along with Duffy, who has been sitting at number one in the British singles charts with Mercy for weeks now, Adele is being touted as the new Amy Winehouse, just without the scars from injecting heroin.

While Duffy seems to be doing better commercially, I prefer this song from Adele than Duffy’s first public release. Although over the long term, I do wonder about her lasting appeal.

Chasing Pavements is brilliant, with a haunting melody, and Adele’s gorgeous, yet unique voice delivering the heartfelt lyrics sublimely.

The video is also a fitting début, featuring a cleverly thought out scenario of the aftermath of a car crash. The horizontal action played out on the pavement makes it very watchable.

The only problem is her voice could get annoying very quickly. What’s unique now could become weary and tiresome in a few short months.

When she sang as part of the Mark Ronson collaboration at the recent Brit Awards, she sounded exactly the same as she does here, suggesting she only has one way of singing.

Song: 9/10
Video: 9/10

Not on iTunes yet! Wow - that was amazing. I’m not sure I could get tired of that voice.

9/10? You must be kidding… the video is awful– a poor idea executed badly, and a big disappointment for such a lovely song which deserved much better…
