I’ll admit to having never heard of Miley Cyrus before the whole hoohah about some photos of her exposing naked flesh started. It’s not my fault, I’m British and she has never released anything over here.
There’s also the fact that I’m older than 14 so don’t watch the Hannah Montana show which does air on the Disney channel over here. But like a good reviewer, I thought I should now find out what all the fuss was about.
This is one her songs, although not her latest, called Start All Over, and I have to say, on the first few viewings, I’m not exactly impressed. Although having said that, I can see the appeal for a younger generation.

I was never a fan of Natasha Bedingfield when she was over here in the UK plying her trade. Her first album was okay but it wasn’t really my cup of tea.
Now, she has disappeared over to the States to find her (larger) fortune and fame, and unbelievably, the quality of music she’s producing has gone down yet another notch.
I reviewed her collaboration with Sean Kingston a while back, and despite me hating both artists, I thought the song was okay. And now Bedingfield is back, minus her fat, untalented sidekick.
The song is called Pocketful Of Sunshine, and it’s meant to be some kind of feel good hit for the summer, with jolliness and happy thoughts plastered all over it. Personally, it just makes me want to vomit.

Gabriella Cilmi has come seemingly out of nowhere to have chart success in her native Australia, as well as New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland. And she’s done it with this brilliant song called Sweet About Me.
The other day I reviewed a song by an Australian band called Pendulum, who have moved to the UK to find fame and fortune. I fully expect Cilmi to do the same thing soon as she knows where the party’s at!
This instantly reminded me of Duffy, the up and coming British star who is being touted as the new, cleaner version of Amy Winehouse, just with a better voice.

I’ve had a mixed view of Rihanna since she burst on to the scene last year with the hugely successful Umbrella. I know she’d been around before that (figuratively speaking) but I’d never heard of her.
At first, I rallied against the popularity, and found the song dull, and highly unoriginal. But it grew on me, as did every other song she’s released since. I still don’t like the blatant sampling/stealing of other’s work, but I can forgive her.
And so we come to her latest song, a blatant love song called Take A Bow, which is very different to anything else I’ve heard from her.

Yesterday, I wrote a post to promote two videos which I thought should get greater attention. Hopefully this meant you watched the offerings from The Bees and The Mooney Suzuki, and increased your musical knowledge a little bit.
This post was part of an endeavour by the whole of the b5 Music Channel to suggest some recommendations to add to your iPod or mp3 player’s playlist. There’s over 40 songs for you to check out, so take your time, listen to the embeds, and watch the videos, and become more educated to new music. Yes, that IS an order.
First off is the other blog I write on the network - Brit Music Scene, where I sought to give a bit of a boost to two brilliant British songs currently in the limelight.
The Jazz and Blues Lounge is our online authority for Jazz, so check it out. Keeping with the Jazz era The Good Musician gives us two of the greatest of all time. Finish your third cup of coffee and take it upbeat with either some Pop from Dexie over at Pop Music Scene or download two free metal tracks at Metal Martyr.
From the world of 5 global music Meccas….Jet half way around the globe for two must have Aussie tracks at Oz Music Scene. Heading back to the new music Mecca of America, Big Apple Music Scene gives you two tracks that should be on every iPod.

Pendulum are a new Australian band who have relocated to the UK as they know it is the Mecca of decent music. Just ask Dave over at Brit Music Scene, oh hang on that’s me! However, don’t tell Lauren at Oz Music Scene, or she’ll kill me.
After starting as producers and remixers, they are now starting to record their own original material, and this song, Propane Nightmares, is the second from new album In Silico.
This is the first thing I’ve heard from them, and I immediately love the combination of heavy rock guitars with a 1980s sounding synth based Electronica vibe.

The b5 music channel is today celebrating the diversity of our music loves by compiling a list of songs that you should all add to your iPod or mp3 player. But obviously with this being a video blog, that wouldn’t quite do it.
So here instead are two classic videos which I adore but are woefully underplayed, or were ignored at the time of release. If either grabs you like they did me, then be sure to add them to your playlist.
The Bees - Chicken Payback
The Mooney Suzuki - Alive and Amplified
Over at Brit Music Scene, I’ve embedded two current British singles which you need to check out. Tomorrow, I’ll be posting all of the links for around the music channel, which altogether combines over 40 songs.

Duffy is back, releasing her second single, Warwick Avenue, as a follow up to the huge hit that was Mercy. And even more than her début, this song transports me back in time to the 1960s.
Not that I was ever alive in the 60s, I’m old but not that old, but it gives me a 60s vibe, and reminds me of video and audio clips I’ve seen and heard of Dusty Springfield back in the day.
The song is a simple love song, about the end of a relationship, which revolves around the London underground station Warwick Avenue.
Duffy’s voice is absolutely stunning, and if possible, this single shows it off even better than Mercy did. Lyrically, I also think this is a stronger song, though it doesn’t have the instant appeal that her début had.

I’ve always liked Missy Elliott, as unlike a lot of the other Hip-Hop artists out there, she seems to always strive for originality, without resting on her laurels or being lazy.
She’s continued this trend with the first single from her forthcoming, as yet untitled album, which also appears on the Step Up 2 The Streets soundtrack.
Ching A Ling may be a terrible title, but the song is top. From the moment you hear her voice come out of the darkness, you know she’s back, and with a vengeance.

Before I can start seriously talking about this song and video, I have to get two things out of the way first:
1. What a stupid name for a song. Not only does it read as if Paris is in Tokyo, when we know it’s really in Germany, but it’s a lazy name. There’s no thought gone in to it.
2. In the same way as Lupe Fiasco tried to hoodwink us in to believing “brung” was a word in his big hit, Superstar, he’s now trying to make out that it’s normal to pronounce “passport as “passpurt”. Idiot.
Phew, now that’s out of the way, let’s take a proper, in-depth look at the song and video.
